Covid-19 The Day After – efforts and initiatives One by One European Countries Open Up to Tourists by GTP editing team 4 June 2020 written by GTP editing team 4 June 2020 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 12 Germany, France, Cyprus, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Croatia, Albania, Austria, Hungary, Montenegro and the Czech Republic are among the countries gradually opening up to tourists from Europe this month, as authorities begin to ease Covid-19 restrictions. Greece announced that it would be opening up the airports of Athens and Thessaloniki on June 15 and all of the country’s airports as of July 1. Passengers on flights from airports in all countries listed by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) would be allowed entry with 14-day quarantine should someone test positive. The tourism ministry also released a list with 29 countries allowed admission into Greece without testing and self-isolation. Italy, meanwhile, opened on Wednesday, to European and UK tourists without requiring a two-week quarantine. The Colosseum and the Leaning Tower of Pisa also opened after the country announced the lowest daily number of new Covid-19 infections since February. The Czech Republic also opened its borders to Germany, Poland, Switzerland, Finland and the Baltics, while listing Belgium, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain as countries with elevated risk. Germany is also set to open on June 15 to EU member states, Britain, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. France is also planning to open to EU nationals from June 15 and may impose quarantine measures on visitors from listed countries considered high risk. Spain is expected to reopen to holidaymakers from low-risk countries at a later date in July. Austria opens its borders today to all neighboring countries apart from Italy, while Cyprus is allowing visitors from Germany, Greece and a number of other countries from June 9 with pre-testing. Portugal is allowing admission to travelers form European countries with the exception of Spain and Italy. Netherlands are open to EU visitors and will welcome non-European travelers from June 15. Worldwide there have been over 317,000 confirmed deaths from Covid-19.
