Athens’ iconic museum will turn 11 on Saturday, June 20, and will celebrate by offering reduced entry (at 5 euros) to all exhibition areas. On this day, the Acropolis Museum will be open for all from 8am to 8pm. Visitors will also have the opportunity to see the temporary exhibition “Chisel and Memory. The contribution of marble craftsmanship to the restoration of the Acropolis monuments”, which continues until September 30 with free entrance. “Chisel and Memory” exhibition, Acropolis Museum. Photo: GTP Furthermore, on June 20, the Museum’s restaurant on the second floor will operate until 12 midnight. Following a three-month COVID-19 lockdown, the Acropolis Museum reopened on June 15, and today operates under enhanced health and safety measures for the protection of visitors and staff. “Gallery Talks” Meanwhile, the “Gallery Talks” sessions held by the Museum’s archaeologists-hosts will commence this week. Visitors wishing to participate are required to wear a protective mask (not provided by the museum) and use the whisper guide system headsets (provided by the museum to participants). “Gallery Talks” take place on the following days and hours: The lost statue of Athena Parthenos The Acropolis Museum brings to life, digitally, the statue of Athena Parthenos. Made of gold and ivory, this masterpiece was designed by Phidias for the Parthenon. Greek: Every Friday at 1pm English: Every Friday at 11am © Maria Theofanopoulou A walk through the Museum with an archaeologist Visitors have the opportunity to participate in evening walks through the Museum exhibition galleries, making unanticipated stops and various discussions, together with an archaeologist-host. Greek: every Friday at 8pm English: every Friday at 6pm Walking in the ancient neighborhood of the Acropolis Museum Visitors are given the opportunity to wander through the archaeological excavation which stretches underneath the Museum, like a giant exhibit. Greek: every Saturday & Sunday at 1pm English: every Saturday & Sunday at 11am Participation to “Gallery Talks” is limited to 10 visitors per session.
