Athens, Greece

Athens and the nearby island of Aegina have been selected as the filming locations of a new French feature film, titled “On sourit pour la photo” (Smile for the photo), directed by Francois Uzan.

With the support of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), the production crew will start shooting the film on July 13. Production is expected to run in Greece for six weeks.

Filming will take place at landmark archaeological sites including the temple of Aphaia in Aegina; the districts of Keramikos and Pagrati ; and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Foundation Cultural Center in Athens.

GNTO’s secretary general, Dimitris Fragakis, recently held a meeting in Athens with the film’s production crew, which included line producers Benjamin Phuong Dung and Fenia Kosovitsa, and production coordinator, Christina Lekaki.

As Fragakis underlined, the GNTO will assist the production during filming and in the stage of promotion, whenever necessary.

According to the GNTO, the film is a very important project for the promotion of the Greek tourist product to the French market and globally. It is estimated that over 10 million French will watch the movie, which will also be screened in Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Spain and other countries.

“Our aim is to highlight the dynamic elements of the capital, Greek gastronomy and the local way of life, but also the less-known aspects of the Attica region including its marinas and wineries, the Vouliagmeni Lake and the culture surrounding Aegina’s pistachio production,” the organization said in an announcement.

The film will premiere in Paris in 2021.
