Budget carrier Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, the newest national airline of the United Arab Emirates recently announced that it will launch a route from Abu Dhabi to Athens starting on October 2.

According to the airline’s schedule, the Abu Dhabi-Athens route will operate three times a week, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, on a state-of-the-art Airbus A321neo aircraft.

The announced flights will add over 70,000 seat capacity to Athens International Airport (AIA) annually and will connect the city and the region with a new and exciting all-year-round destination.

“The addition of another route to Wizz Air’s extensive Athens network underpins the airline’s long-term commitment to Athens and Greece. The 16 years of successful operations have proved that Wizz Air offers very competitive and popular services in Greece,” an announcement by the airline said.

Sanitised travel

The announcement of the Abu Dhabi-Athens route comes as the new era of sanitized travel recently began at Wizz Air. The airline introduced a range of enhanced hygiene measures, to ensure the health and safety of its passengers and crew. As part of these new protocols, throughout the flight, both cabin crew and passengers are required to wear facemasks, with cabin crew also required to wear gloves.

“As Wizz Air leads the way with sanitised travel, we are looking forward to operating this new low-fare service paired with high quality on board experience. I’m confident Wizz Air will have a significant role in the ramp up of Greece’s tourism sector,” Andras Rado, Spokesperson of Wizz Air Group said.

Seats on the new Abu Dhabi-Athens route can be booked on the airline’s website or mobile app.

Wizz Air Abu Dhabi is a joint venture by ADQ, one of Abu Dhabi’s largest holding companies, and Wizz Air, which is the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe.
