The initiative by AEGEAN aims to further enhance the health and safety of its passengers and crew, and is part of the additional precautionary measures already taken by the company for the new, adapted travel experience during the COVID-19 pandemic. The molecular COVID-19 testing program will take place every fifteen days in collaboration with the Laboratory of Clinical Virology of the Medical School of the University of Crete – one of the designated COVID-19 Reference Laboratories in Greece. According to a company announcement, sampling will take place at the bases of AEGEAN in Athens, Thessaloniki and Heraklion, while the program has already been extended to a number of employees of other operations as well. “Our people are our strength which is why protecting their health has always been our utmost priority. We have been following the guidelines of the state and competent authorities since the very beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. We have implemented enhanced health measures at all stages of the travel journey, and initiated additional precautionary measures to protect the health and safety of our passengers and employees,” said Panos Nicolaidis, Ground Operations Director at AEGEAN.
