Covid-19 The Day After – efforts and initiatives Guidelines for Airports to Offer Healthy Passenger Experience Released by GTP editing team 17 July 2020 written by GTP editing team 17 July 2020 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 6 Source: ACI Europe The Airports Council International Europe (ACI Europe) on Friday released its Guidelines for a Healthy Passenger Experience at Airports to support a safe and coordinated restart in aviation following the coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis. The purpose of the guidelines is to complement the joint European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) “COVID-19 Aviation Health Safety Protocol” by elaborating on what airports need to consider and do to implement them. The guidelines provide practical step-by-step guidance to airports as they restart operations based on a “new normal”, reviewing all possible actions, methodologies, technologies and implications in terms of facility and resource management as well as communications. “There is no doubt that the Aviation Health Safety Protocol developed by EASA and ECDC has been instrumental in restarting of aviation. This is indeed the standard that Europe’s airports are following,” ACI Europe Director General Olivier Jankovec said on Friday. As underlined by Jankovec, the ACI Europe guidelines are built upon the EASA/ECDC protocol. “They complement it by providing airports concrete advice and solutions to adapt to the new normal in operations and customer service. In doing so, our guidelines take stock of a new category of passengers – the health-concerned passenger – and also look at how we can harness technological developments and digitisation,” he said. According to Jankovec, the priority and focus are clear: “This is about delivering a safe end-to-end journey unrivalled in any other transport mode”. ACI Europe released its guidelines for a Healthy Passenger Experience at Airports after signing a cooperation agreement with EASA to further consolidate the EASA/ECDC COVID-19 Aviation Health Safety Protocol to airports and airlines as the European standard and reference for States to follow. ACI Europe represents over 500 airports in 46 European countries and EASA is the centrepiece of the EU’s strategy for aviation safety.
