Adapted to the extraordinary conditions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s event will introduce a mini version of the original annual “Hola” Flamenco Festival. The event will take place at the Kypseli Municipal Market with a limited number of spectators, while the organizer will undertake all the necessary measures to ensure the safety of participants, staff and the audience. Online pre-booking is also advised. Participating acts at the event will include flamenco guitarist Mateo Oscar, artists and dance schools active in Greece, as well as Greek gypsy band Sam Roma. The flamenco dance is based on the various folklore music traditions of the region of Andalusia in southern Spain. “It is a kind of art that has incorporated the concepts of collectivity and coexistence, struggle and power,” the organizer, Yota Baron from Flamenco Productions, said. “The aim of Hola is to connect different types of music with flamenco and bring a part of Andalusia to Greece.” This is also the purpose of the festival’s name, as the organizer connects the Spanish word “hola” which means “hello”, with the Greek word “ola” meaning “everything”. “Hola” will take place with the support of the Hellenic-Spanish Chamber of Commerce and Greek public broadcaster ERT.
