Cyclades – Dodecanese Isles Winning Over Tourists After Covid-19

Despite Covid-19 and a constantly changing travel landscape, tourists are giving the Greek islands thumbs up opting to mainly visit five islands in the Cyclades and Dodecanese, according to data released recently by Greece’s civil aviation authority and regional airport manager Fraport Greece and provided by the Region of the South Aegean.

More specifically, the airports of Rhodes, Kos, Santorini, Mykonos and Karpathos accounted for a large portion of travelers to Greece in the first 16 days of July after the country opened its borders following Covid-19 lockdowns.

The five Greek islands welcomed a total of 682 international flights and 89,560 travelers.

The data broken down brings Rhodes in the lead with 289 inbound flights carrying 41,320 visitors, followed by Kos with 173 flights and 23,046 arrivals, Santorini with 99 flights and 12,277 passengers, Mykonos with 104 flights and 12,136 arrivals, and Karpathos with 12 flights and 781 visitors.

According to the Rhodes Hoteliers Association, the positive climate is reflected in the opening of 70 percent of the island’s 5-star hotels.
