July is the fourth consecutive month to have been substantially impacted by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic crisis and its impact on air travel. As a result, AIA’s passenger traffic was down by 70 percent, compared to the same month last year, and amounted to only some 894,000 passengers. According to data, both domestic and international passenger traffic were sharply reduced, by 56 percent and 76 percent, respectively. Overall during the first seven months of 2020, the airport’s passenger traffic totalled 4.8 million, a decline of 66.3 percent compared to prior year’s levels, resulting from the sharp traffic drop due to the impact of Covid-19 during the March-July period. AIA’s data showed that the volumes of international and domestic passengers during January-July 2020 decreased by 69 percent and 61 percent, respectively. As of August 5, Athens Airport offers Covid-19 testing, upon request, to the traveling public and airport staff.
