Air Travel Greece Air Passenger Traffic Down by 74.3% in Jan-July 2020 by GTP editing team 14 August 2020 written by GTP editing team 14 August 2020 1 comment Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 13 Traffic through Greece’s airports dropped by 74.3 percent disrupted by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic in the first seven months of the year to 9 million passengers against 34.7 million in 2019, according to data released by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) this week. In terms of flights for the January-July 2020 period, Greek airports handled 115,402 flights: 67,340 domestic and 48,062 international recording a 60.3 percent decline compared to 290,859 flights in the same period in 2019. For the month of July, one of Greece’s peak tourism season months, a total of 2.7 million passengers went through Greece’s airports down by 72.6 percent compared to the same month in 2019 when 9.93 million passengers visited Greece. The number of flights through Greek airports in July, dropped by 56.5 percent to 33,255 against 76,370 in July 2019. Broken down, there were 1.12 million arrivals from abroad, a 72.5 percent decline compared to 4.09 million in July 2019. Meanwhile, Greece’s 14 Fraport-managed regional airports handled 75.1 percent fewer passengers in July compared to the same month in 2019. Seven–month passenger traffic through the 14 airports was down by 81 percent to 3 million people from 16.2 million in the January-July period in 2019, Fraport Greece said recently.
