According to Bloomberg, Greece is among the countries attracting more super yachts this year despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. More specifically, according to tracking data complied by Bloomberg, 145 super yachts sailed Greek seas in August and 135 in July, compared to 132 in August 2019. These luxury pleasure vessels include professional crew and can reach up to 180 meters in length. According to the report, wealthier travelers appear to be opting for new mooring spots with Covid-19 safety in mind, leaving behind traditional destinations such as Spain, which marked the largest decrease in super yachts so far, with 26 leaving its waters last month. Turkey, meanwhile, has also been winning over the rich particularly those from Russia, as has Croatia, which saw Roman Abramovich’s 533-foot Eclipse – the fourth-longest yacht in the world – make its presence there. In Greece, the 361-foot Radiant was among the luxury vessels spotted sailing Greek waters. Indicatively in 2019, Greece was the third most popular charter destination worldwide, accounting for 17 percent of the global yachting market after Southern France (20 percent) and Italy (19 percent).
