Organized for the eighth year, SIFF will be held in various outdoor areas in Ermoupolis, Syros’ main town, under the theme “Off Season”. According to an announcement, this year’s festival aims to examine the footprint that an event can have on the society after its completion (off-season), as well as the relation between current events and the timeless character of motion pictures. Furthermore, the festival will feature films focusing on the social trends and dynamics that affect tourism in a region – with special reference to Mediterranean destinations. In addition, it will examine the impact of the economic and migration crises on tourism. SIFF’s program will also include screenings of silent films accompanied by live or pre-recorded music, tributes to international artists, educational programs and workshops. 3rd Syros Aquathlon 2020 Later in September, the island will also host the 3rd Syros Aquathlon 2020, a prime sports tourism event combining running and swimming. Scheduled to take place in Ermoupolis and Posidonia during September 25-27, Syros Aquathlon will include a 500m, a 1,000m and a 2,500m swimming race for adults; competitions for children under the age of 14, as well as combined swimming and running races for adults and children. The Syros International Film Festival and the 3rd Syros Aquathlon 2020 will be held under the auspices of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), as part of the organization’s efforts to promote alternative forms of tourism and extend the season.
