According to an announcement by the Greek Environment and Energy Ministry, the government’s promise to transform TIF into a modern exhibition center of international standards, complete with state of the art infrastructure and green spaces, has taken “the final step”. The draft presidential decree concerns the approval of a the special urban plan for the area where the exhibition center in located and the determination of land uses, conditions and building restrictions. “The upgrade of the exhibition center’s facilities, with a focus on modern infrastructure and public green spaces, will strengthen the city’s outreach, making it the reference point in Southeastern Europe”, Greek Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy Dimitris Oikonomou said, underlining the government’s aim to highlight the prospects of Thessaloniki and Northern Greece in general. The Thessaloniki International Exhibition Center (TIF), which is expected to include an array of facilities to cater to the increasing needs of visitors of congresses, is scheduled to be ready by 2026.
