TIF-Helexpo is inviting individual architects, teams consisting of architects and landscape architects from all over the world to participate in the competition Greece’s national exhibition body TIF-Helexpo on September 28 will launch an international open call for the first phase of an architectural design competition for the revamp of the Thessaloniki International Exhibition Center. A leading company in the exhibitions and conference industry in Southeastern Europe, TIF-Helexpo is aiming to redevelop its fairgrounds, located in the center of Thessaloniki, with the construction of the Thessaloniki ConfEx Park, an ambitious plan that includes a state-of-the-art convention centre and a new urban park. The master plan of the project has already been given the green light by the Greek Environment and Energy Ministry and the draft presidential decree concerning the center’s renovation was recently submitted to the Council of State for approval. According to TIF-Helexpo, the competition aims for the construction of an exhibition and conference center with a strong identity that will fulfill the highest standards to optimize the arrangement of its facilities and activities, respect environmental parameters and contribute to sustainable development. TIF-Helexpo’s main project goal is to have a major impact on the economy of the city and the broader area of Northern Greece, this way contributing to the transformation of Thessaloniki into a leading international business hub and tourism destination in Europe. The competition area occupies approximately 17,5 hectares (175.000 m2) and according to the master plan is divided into four functional districts and six sectors. Invited to participate in the competition are individual architects, teams consisting of architects and landscape architects from all over the world. TIF-Helexpo expects to receive innovative, high-quality, sustainable and unique architectural proposals for a visionary project that will aspire to become an exceptional example of future cityscape developments establishing close spatial connections between business areas and buildings as well as green open spaces. The competition will start of with a pre-qualification phase, which will launch on September 28, through which 15 applicants will be selected to participate in the design competition.
