Greek tourism professional Marios Kammenos has been re-elected treasurer of ECTAA, at the association’s 121st semi-annual meeting held October 8-9 in Athens.

ECTAA, the European Travel Agents’ and Tour Operators’ Association, regroups the national associations of travel agents and tour operators of 28 European countries and represents some 80,000 enterprises.

Marios heads the travel agency Four Ways Travel in Volos, Greece, and comes from a family that has been active in tourism for some 40 years. He also serves as vice president of the Hellenic Association of Travel and Tourist Agencies’ (HATTA) and as deputy secretary general of the Federation of Hellenic Associations of Tourist & Travel Agencies (FEDHATTA).

ECTAA’s semi-annual meeting also saw the re-election of Pawel Niewiadomski (Poland) as president for a second two year term. Eva Blasco Garcia (Spain) was re-elected vice president and members are Boris Zgomba (Croatia), Lars Thykier (Denmark), Heli Mäki-Fränti (Finland), Frank Oostdam (Netherlands)

According to ECTAA, the priority of the association’s new Board will be to work with political leaders and industry partners on setting the right framework for the speedy recovery of the travel and tourism industry in Europe, which faces many challenges due to the current global health crisis.

“A prerequisite for this is a coordinated approach on travel restrictions within Europe! And the second one is a quick fix to the package travel Directive, which is not adapted to the current endless extraordinary circumstances,” Pawel said.

ECTAA’s 121st semi-annual meeting in Athens was the association’s first “in person” event since the coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak.
