Destinations news Halkidiki’s Aristotle Municipality to Complete Trekking Paths Network in 2021 by GTP editing team 15 October 2020 written by GTP editing team 15 October 2020 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 29 A network of trekking paths covering a large part of the Municipality of Aristotle in Halkidiki, central Macedonia, is expected to be available to residents and visitors by April 2021. The announcement was made by Aristotle Mayor Stylianos Valianos during a recent presentation of the area’s trekking routes and local infrastructure to tourism professionals. During the event, Valianos also presented the municipality’s special electronic guide, “Trekking: Life is an adventure”, that offers useful information in the English language, on the area’s 13 historic hiking routes covering 100km. Furthermore, the Mayor received the bike-friendly certification by the non-profit organization TourNattour, recognizing Eastern Halkidiki as a bike-friendly tourism destination. Apart from its 100km trekking routes, the Municipality also looks to promote the “Aristotelian Walk”, a 32km trail leading to the town of Stagira, where Greek philosopher Aristotle was born in 384BC. In collaboration with Deutscher Wanderverband Service GmbH, the Municipality recently conducted a two-day training seminar for 12 residents that are familiar with the area, who will prepare select sections of the Walk for evaluation. The aim is for the Aistotelian Walk to be included in the global network of certified trails, and provide trekkers with efficiency and safety. The 12 certified residents that will prepare the Aristotelian Walk for certification. Furthermore, earlier in October, the Municipality of Aristotle and the Greek National Tourism Organization held a fam trip for trekking specialists from Germany and Poland who followed the paths of Eastern Halkidiki from Holomontas to the mountains of Aristotle and Athos. The Municipality’s next promotional project will be dedicated to the cultural walking routes of Eastern Halkidiki that follow the footsteps of Alexis Zorbas, and includes a presentation in London in November.
