The GIFTTS (Great Initiatives for Today’s [Tomorrow’s] Society) program, every year recognizes the member hotels of the Preferred Hotels & Resorts that show strong commitment to charity, sustainability, education and social contribution. NJV Athens Plaza was announced winner in the Sustainability category for 2020, as it stood out among over 80 hotels worldwide for its environmental activities and innovative sustainable policies. “The responsibility of NJV Athens Plaza on issues related to sustainability is what brought this honorable award to the hotel. Our environmental sensitivity is directly related to our business model. It is a key element of our strategy, embraced by our human resources,” said NJV Athens Plaza General Manager Vana Lazarakou. NJV Athens Plaza General Manager Vana Lazarakou holds the hotel’s 2020 GIFTTS Pineapple Award. Located at central Syntagma Square, NJV Athens Plazza has been offering high-quality hospitality services to Greek and international travelers since 1980. In 2019, the five-star hotel was named a “Champion” of sustainability at the 4th Annual Sustainability Summit for being a member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). According to the hotel’s Corportate Social Responsibility Report for 2019, last year, NJV Athens Plaza managed to reduce energy consumption by 28.9kwh per overnight stay and increase the amount of recycling materials (paper, glass, oils, metal, lighting bulbs, electrical appliances) by 0.25kg/overnight stay. Furthermore, it has enhanced its energy saving program by training its staff accordingly, offering information to guests and obtaining the EarthCheck Evaluate Plus certificate.
