Destinations news Time for Central Greece to Claim its Share of Tourists, Says Ministry by GTP editing team 16 October 2020 written by GTP editing team 16 October 2020 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 18 Setting as a priority to promote the lesser-known destinations of Central Greece, the Tourism Ministry said it would be making financial tools available for investment and business plans in the area. Participating in a working group this week in the town of Galaxidi, Central Greece, with local tourism stakeholders and officials, Deputy Tourism Minister Manos Konsolas underlined the importance of “securing a spot for the region on the tourist map”. Currently, Konsolas said, the Central Greece Region, which includes the island of Evia, the mountain region of Evrytania, and the archaeological site of Delphi, accounts for a mere 2 percent of all tourism activity and only 1 percent of travel receipts. In this direction, besides the funding opportunities available for sustainable tourism investment ideas, Konosolas stressed the importance of upgrading tourism education with curricula formulated by the tourism, education and labor ministries in order to cover the complete tourist experience. Key to establishing the region as a tourist destination is investing in quality and diversifying the tourist product on offer; attracting high income visitors; transitioning to green practices; integrating digital practices; and enhancing competitiveness, the minister said, adding that the region could focus on winter tourism.
