Additional actions to further enhance the tourism promotion of the northeast Aegean island of Chios will be carried out by the Tourism Ministry, according to Greek Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis. During a meeting on Thursday with Chios Hoteliers Association President Antigoni Maistrali, Theoharis was informed on the latest regarding the island’s hotels. “Chios, like other frontier islands of Greece, have borne the burden of immigration flows… This is why they need special support and promotion, something that our ministry is doing through the ‘Greek 4: For You’ campaign,” the minister said. Through ‘Greek 4: For You’, Chios, together with Lesvos, Leros and Samos, are promoted worldwide as lesser-known, but attractive destinations, for holidays in Greece. Theoharis assured Maistrali that the ministry would plan further special actions to enhance the tourism promotion of Chios. Maistrali also informed the minister on the concerns of citizens and businessmen due to the significantly reduced tourist traffic to the island, due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. She also informed that Chios did not suffer serious material damage from the recent earthquake that rocked Samos. Promotion through Visit Greece app The minister reminded that members of the Chios Hoteliers Association can register on the Visit Greece app, an innovative application for smartphones and tablets. Counting some 500,000 users, the Visit Greece app offers tourism professionals the opportunity to come in direct contact with travelers and present their services to the world. Theoharis informed that the app is constantly being improved and revised, both in terms of content and appearance, in order to make it even more attractive for users. “We expect the country’s municipalities and regions to send their material for ‘Visit Greece’ to be enriched in the best possible way,” the minister noted. The two sides agreed to be in frequent contact to address any issues of concern to the local tourism industry and also to boost the promotion of Chios internationally.
