Athens News Athens Virtual Marathon Event Gets Extension Due to High Demand by GTP editing team 20 November 2020 written by GTP editing team 20 November 2020 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 19 The ongoing Athens Virtual Marathon event is extended until November 27, due to the increasing interest of runners from all over the world, the Hellenic Athletics Federation (SEGAS) and the Athens Marathon Organizing Committee announced on Thursday. The organizers have also taken into consideration the lockdown measures in place for individual exercise in Greece. Registrations continue until November 27, therefore participants have the option to upload their race results on the dedicated mobile application until the evening of Sunday, November 29. Following the cancellation of this year’s “Athens Marathon. The Authentic”, the virtual race started on November 8 and was originally scheduled to conclude on November 22. The virtual race offers runners the option to run a 5- or 10-km distance anywhere – on the street, in a park or a treadmill, whenever and for as many times as they wish to improve their time and ranking. “Thousands of runners in Greece and around the world have already registered and participated in the virtual race, respecting the guidelines and instructions for the protection of public health issued by Greek authorities,” SEGAS said. The runners of the Virtual Athens Marathon will receive a special medal, exclusively created for this year’s event.
