Laws, Regulations & Policy Diversifying Greek Tourism Product Key to Growth by GTP editing team 4 December 2020 written by GTP editing team 4 December 2020 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 6 Secretary General for Tourism Policy and Development Vicky Loizou stressed the importance of developing special interest products and presented the benefits of developing “silver tourism”, which bring added value to Greece, during the Greek Economic Summit organized by the American-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce. Loizou underlined the need to upgrade infrastructure in order to facilitate senior travel to Greece as well as the need to diversify the tourist product which includes actions that will attract more visitors who also spend more. These actions, she said, are already included in the tourism ministry’s 10-year strategic plan. She went on to underline the importance of developing thematic tourism as it will contribute greatly to a longer tourist season and to the development of non-tourist areas. By streamlining tourism policies, Loizou said “we ensure access to all”. She also referred to the development of spa, health, wellness, and marine tourism, which in combination will open Greece to wider group of people. “Tourism before the pandemic contributed to the Greek economy more than 20 percent of GDP. However, it has not reached its maximum level of development, as thematic forms of tourism have not been particularly developed. Our goal now is rapid recovery and the stable and sustainable development of tourism,” she said.
