All travelers arriving to Greece from abroad between Friday, December 18 and Thursday, January 7, 2021, will be required to self-isolate for 10 days.

Speaking during a media briefing on Monday, Greek Government Spokesperson Stelios Petsas announced that the government decided to extend the current lockdown measures through to the first week in January 2021 to combat the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19).

International travel

With regard to international travel, Petsas said that all entering Greece from countries abroad between Friday, December 18 and Thursday, January 7, 2021, will be obliged to:

– submit a Passenger Locator Form (PLF) and a negative Covid-19 test result (PCR) performed up to 72 hours before arrival
– take a rapid Covid-19 test upon entry
– enter a 10-day preventive quarantine.

It is reminded that authorities on Friday announced that travelers who test positive for Covid-19 at Greece’s land borders will be denied entrance to the country.

Traveling out of home prefectures is banned

Moreover, Petsas said that traveling between Greek prefectures (domestic travel) will not be allowed until 6am on January 7, 2021.

Movement in the country

Greece’s night curfew from 9 pm to 5 am will remain in place and outside movement in Greece will continue to be allowed only for specific reasons and by sending an SMS to the five-digit mobile phone service 13033.

The government’s spokesperson noted that one month after Greece entered its second nationwide lockdown, the pressure on the country’s health system remains high, despite the fewer Covid-19 cases in recent days and that the improvement of epidemiological data is proceeding slower than expected.

This doesn’t make sense. It would if country-based entry restrictions were lifted – most countries are still banned from Greece.

What do we need now, until the 18th December, to enter Greece from Danmark?

The government wants to kill economy on islands that are not infected by Corona. How silly! They cannot differentiate between regions with high numbers of COVID and.such with no or almost no COVID-19. Why to lock down small shops on Paros??? No one understands.

Why are we not hearing anything from the Greek government or the European Union on the use of Ivermectin which has now been through peer review in multiple studies and proved to work as both a prophylaxis and a therapeutic?

If you arrive in Athens on 2 Jan and live in Kefalonia, can you transit through Athens without self isolating in Athens? Thank you.

A negative PCR test is not a clear indication as Covid can take from 2 days till 14 days to appear especially after travel Greece is not the only Country enforcing quarantine just be grateful they are not charging 3000 Dollars /2200 euros for Quarantine costs as in Australia.

This will restrict people coming to Greece especially for people from Australia as we have to quarantine for 14 days on return home so 24 days of quarantine will certainly stop travel but also agree that a negative pcr test on arrival is not an indication of covid free. Hopefully Greece will be able to get out of lockdown soon

Why do you have to quaratine 10 days if the tests are negative?
I am paying £120 for the test, then again a test in Athens.surely if the tests are negative then why quaratine.
My family are so important to me that I have and will do anything to keep them safe.

il semblerait que les tests ne détectent pas le virus si la contamination est récente

Exactly. I have the same opinion. Those restrictions for Chritmas time are probably only made to not support traveling and make it as much unpleasant as possible…
