In absolute figures, the number of passengers during Q2 2020 amounted to 3,179,197 people, of which 3,117,533 were domestic travelers and 61,664 were international. Source: ELSTAT Considering the period recorded (April-June), it is obvious that the significant drop in passenger traffic at Greek ports was due to the impact (lockdown, travel restrictions) of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, which hit Greece in March. Meanwhile, when comparing the second quarter of 2018 with the corresponding period of 2019, ELSTAT recorded a 2.3 increase in total passenger traffic at Greek ports. ELSTAT’s survey on the traffic of passengers, goods and mobile units in Greek ports is conducted on a monthly basis and covers all merchant vessels of net tonnage 10 GRT and over that carry passengers, goods and mobile units by sea to and from domestic and international ports for commercial purposes.
