A drop of 74.9 percent was recorded in the turnover of Greek travel agencies, tour operators, reservation services and related activities in the third quarter (Q3) of 2020, normally considered high season for Greek tourism, compared to the corresponding period of 2019, according to data by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).

“This is the first time in the last five years that the turnover index in tourist offices shows a decrease during this period, indicative of the critical situation in which the industry has fallen as a result of the effects of the (Covid-19) pandemic,” the Federation of Hellenic Associations of Tourist & Travel Agencies (FedHATTA) said in an announcement.

The federation added that the decrease for the whole year of 2020, “unfortunately is expected to be greater”, given that in the second and fourth quarters of the year Greece’s tourist flows were almost at zero.

Looking ahead, towards the next day of Greek tourism, the federation said it will continue its actions of extroversion in large foreign markets in Europe, America and Asia.

FedHATTA said it will continue to use its representation in international organizations of organized travel, such as ECTAA, for the benefit of the industry and European and Greek tourism.
