Covid-19 Lockdown Restrictions Extended for West Attica and Kozani

The additional lockdown restrictions imposed on the prefecture of West Attica and the regional unit of Kozani have been extended by one week, until December 30, the Greek General Secretariat for Civil Protection announced on Thursday.

The decision was taken due to the high coronavirus (Covid-19) infection rates that continue to appear in both areas.

The extension of restrictions in West Attica specifically concern the municipalities of Aspropyrgos, Elefsina and Mandra-Idilia.

In the regional unit of Kozani, high infection rates have been recorded in the municipalities of Kozani, Eordea, Voio, Servion and Velventou.

The additional safety restrictions in West Attica and Kozani include a strict curfew (non-essential movement is banned from 6pm until 5am) while all retail stores will remain closed, including those operating with the click-away method (phone or online orders). All religious services, except funerals, are also suspended.

Μass rapid tests and contact tracing are being carried out in both areas.

Strict lockdown for municipality in Viotia

The General Secretariat for Civil Protection also announced that additional Covid-19 lockdown restrictions will be imposed on the Municipality of Aliartos – Thespies in the regional unit of Viotia in Central Greece, following a sharp spike in Covid-19 cases.

The measures will be in effect from Friday, December 25 until Monday, December 28.

The additional safety restrictions include a ban on movement outside the borders of the local community of Thespia (except for health reasons), a strict curfew (non-essential movement is banned from 6pm until 5am) and suspension of religious ceremonies. All retail stores (retail, click away, etc.) will remain closed.

Greek health authorities on Thursday announced 873 new coronavirus cases and 55 deaths. Since the start of the pandemic, the total number of cases in the country has reached 134,235. The Covid-19 death toll in Greece is 4,457.
