2021 Year in Review

Following a year that saw the world literally shut down, 2021 can surely be characterized as a “better year” than 2020. While there was no sign of when the Covid-19 pandemic would be over (and when the world would return to the pre-pandemic normal), efforts were made to achieve a greater normalcy – something that was accomplished to some level.
However, despite the development of effective vaccines against Covid-19, the virus continued to spread and mutate throughout 2021.

Hit hard by Covid-19 in 2020, the global travel and tourism sector in 2021 took steps towards a recovery, which still remains very fragile as we enter the new year with a fast-spreading Covid-19 variant (named after the Greek letter Omicron) along with a handful of safety restrictions.

Although the course of Omicron remains unknown, the Greek tourism sector says goodbye to 2021 with hopes of a full restart in 2022 after opening to visitors mid-year in 2021 and managing to achieve figures surpassing half of 2019 levels.

Join us as we take a look back at some highlights showing Greece’s tourism course in Covid times.
