Photo © Facebook – ΟΙ ΟΜΟΡΦΙΕΣ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΑΣ ΜΑΣ A multi-million-euro luxury project to go up on the Greek islet of Skorpios, located off the Ionian island of Lefkada, is set to become the playground of the rich and famous after Greek authorities approved the investment with a joint ministerial decision. The 55-page decision signed last week sets out the terms and conditions of the VIP Exclusive Club budgeted at 165 million euros, which will include VIP suites and villas, swimming pools, sports facilities, an artificial lake, a spa center, leisure spaces, horse stables, amphitheater, screening venue, restaurants, and an extended marina for mega yachts, among others. The decision paves way for works to begin on one of the largest investments in tourism and real estate and is set to be completed by the summer of 2024 with own capital. The islet was purchased in 2013 by Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev for his 24-year-old daughter. Skorpios will be the first privately-owned island to be converted into a a luxury resort targeting high profile travelers. Originally, Skorpios was purchased by Greek shipping tycoon Aristotle Onassis in 1963. It was on this island that he wed former US First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in 1968. Skorpios is the island where Jacqueline Kennedy married Greek shipping tycoon, Aristotle Onassis. Onassis, his son Alexander and daughter Christina are buried on the northern part of Skorpios, which still belongs to Athina Onassis. Those fortunate enough to stay on the island once the project is completed will have a chance to see an olive tree planted by Onassis himself, the 180-year-old “Pink Villa” renovated in 2014 and converted into a mini museum displaying Onassis family memorabilia, the Sailor House, a large bio fruit and vegetable garden, and stables, among others.
