The decision was taken due to rising number of coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in these areas. The extension of restrictions in West Attica specifically concerns the municipalities of Aspropyrgos and Elefsina. In the regional unit of Kozani, harder measures apply in the municipalities of Kozani, Eordea and Voio. In Rodopi, a high number of infections is recorded in Strofi, Neda, Agiochori and Ipio in the Municipality of Arriani. Furthermore, the island of Kalymnos in the South Aegean region also remains under harder lockdown measures until January 18. The additional safety restrictions include a strict curfew (non-essential movement is banned from 6pm until 5am); the closure of all shops, including those operating with the click-away method (phone or online orders); and the suspension of religious services, except funerals.
