Created to facilitate travelers during their trip in Greece, the app received the gold award in the “Best in Travel & Tourism” category, as well as a platinum and a gold award in the “Specialized Practices & Strategy – Mobile App” category. “These awards prove the success of this project. One of our main priorities at the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) is to strengthen the digital tools for the promotion of Greek tourism,” GNTO Secretary General Dimitris Fragakis said. The Visit Greece app was developed in only 10 weeks by the GNTO and Warply with the support of Mastercard and Eurobank. It launched in the summer of 2020, as Greece’s official destination app offering real-time information on tourism-related issues through the portal of the GNTO. The app also features a special Covid-19 section with digital maps, info and push notifications for updates during the tourism season. Furthermore, users can submit their questions in the special chatbot of the Visit Greece app. Since its launch six months ago, the app has had over 700,000 downloads. Eighty percent of its users are registered and – despite the difficult circumstances of the previous season – some 1,000 tourism companies from all over Greece have also registered. “We have made specific moves in order to respond to new trends by investing in innovation and new technologies,” the GNTO’s secretary general added. Apart from the e-volution Awards, the Visit Greece app has also been honored at the Mobile Excellence Awards 2020, with the gold award in the “Mobile Digital Transformation” category. The app is available on Google Play and Apple stores.
