Greece’s Mount Pelion and its hidden treasures are featured in a 10-page article published in the latest issue of France’s “Le Figaro Magazine”.

Written by travel editor Sarah Chevalley, the article is titled “Balade au pays des centaures” (walk in the land of centaurs) and includes photos of Laurent Fabre.

It refers to the area’s long history, unique nature combining sea and mountain; and distinctive architecture which can be seen in the local mansions, stone trails and villages.

The article also features local recipes and products such as the tsipouro – a strong distilled spirit produced in Pelion and other areas, as well as herbs and mushrooms.

Chevalley and Fabre visited Pelion in October 2020 during a press trip organized by the French service of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO).

A member of Le Figaro, France’s historic media group, Le Figaro Magazine is a popular weekly edition, with a circulation of 370,000 copies and a readership of 1.5 million.

Mount Pelion is located in the southeastern part of Thessaly in central Greece. It forms a hook-like peninsula between the Pagasetic Gulf and the Aegean Sea. Its highest summit, Pourianos Stavros, is 1,624 metres*.

Pelion is also known as the Mountain of Centaurs since in Greek mythology, it was the homeland of Chiron the Centaur, tutor of many ancient Greek heroes such as Jason, Achilles, Theseus and Heracles.
