Mount Pelion is located in the southeastern part of Thessaly in central Greece. It forms a hook-like peninsula between the Pagasetic Gulf and the Aegean Sea. Its highest summit, Pourianos Stavros, is 1,624 metres*. Pelion is also known as the Mountain of Centaurs since in Greek mythology, it was the homeland of Chiron the Centaur, tutor of many ancient Greek heroes such as Jason, Achilles, Theseus and Heracles. *With information from Wikipedia Join the 15,000+ travel executives who read our newsletter Follow GTP Headlines on Google News to keep up to date with all the latest on tourism and travel in Greece.
