Greek Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis recently honored twin influencers Marianna and Sofia Erotokritou with the title of “Greece’s Tourism Ambassadors to China” for their efforts to promote the country to Chinese social media.

Known as the @greek_twins, the Erotokritou sisters study in Beijing and promote Greece through their social media channels. Their videos are highly popular on the Chinese version of YouTube. So far they have promoted Hydra, Naxos and Paros, while their video on Athens and Santorini has exceeded 1 million views.

“With his decision, the Tourism Minister aims to enhance the image of Greece abroad… The Erotokritou sisters act as an added value [for Greece], attracting visitors from China,” the ministry said in an announcement.

The initiative is part of the “2021 Greece – China Year of Culture and Tourism” events that aim to deepen the traditional relations of the two countries and further expand their cooperation during this critical period.

“In the modern world of social media the Greek Twins and their hundred of thousands of followers will play a decisive role, through authentic videos on the everyday life and moments of Greeks, as well as well as thematic videos on popular Greek destinations,” the ministry said.

The Greek Twins will retain their title as “Greece’s Tourism Ambassadors to China” for two years with the option of renewal. The title is honorary and does not foresee any kind of fee.

The collaboration includes the following actions:

– Promotion of thematic forms of tourism through social media and other digital platforms on a weekly basis
– Emphasis on the promotion on gastronomy tourism with weekly posts
– Representation of Greece’s tourism product in events of the Chinese market.

The Greek Twins also publish their activities on their website at www.greektwins.gr.
