The Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) is exploring ways to promote Athens to markets abroad, with a focus on the wider area of the city’s historic center, and to support the tourist shops of the popular Plaka district.

GNTO President Angela Gerekou recently exchanged views on the issue in a meeting with the vice governor of the Central Sector of Athens, Yiorgos Dimopoulos; the vice president of the Athens Chamber of Commerce, Nikos Kougioumtzis; and the representative of the Association of Tourist Shops of Plaka, Giannis Michalopoulos.

During the meeting, discussions focused on the prospects of launching joint actions to showcase the cultural and historical face of Athens through the creation of a new, single, identity of the city for its promotion to international markets.

Also discussed was the possibility of creating thematic actions for the promotion of cultural tourism, which would be added to experiential tours of visitors in the Greek capital.

Food and culture s the perfect mix

Eco friendly: dreaming of a city that well reflects its glorious past
Close the center to traffic
Turn the heart of town into an archaeological walk path stretching from Stntagma to Monastiraki and to the Acropolis area
Give a better layout of Athens market in Athinas St
