Niche markets Minister: Greek Diet a Priority for Development of Brand Greece by GTP editing team 5 February 2021 written by GTP editing team 5 February 2021 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 21 Photo source: @Visit Greece The Greek Diet and gastronomy tourism have an active role to play in the development and branding of the Greek tourism product, said Rural Development and Food Minister Spilios Livanos. Speaking in an interview to Skai TV recently, Livanos said the ministry’s priority is “the global promotion of the Greek Diet brand”. “Greece has the privilege to produce excellent products. These products, which must be identified; must be branded as the Greek Diet,” he said. In this direction the minister said the government would be funding relevant infrastructure, increasing exports, training farmers, and taking actions to establish the Greek Diet brand. He referred to a common EU agricultural policy under which Greece will receive 19.7 billion euros and stressed the need for “rational” investment in infrastructure. “If we invest in infrastructure rationally and by increasing production and exports, giving added value to our products, then we will have succeeded,” Livanos said. Livanos went on to stress the importance of the Greek Diet in Greek culture, tradition and history, “which we must link to tourism. Tourists can become the best ambassadors of the Greek Diet but we must understand first of all, in our families, in our schools, that we must prefer Greek products,” he said. Lastly, the minister also referred to the importance of establishing a policy that will cover Greek olive oil production similar to that being implemented for Greek wines.
