The meeting will be organised by Portugal as holder of the presidency of the Council of the EU. According to Portugal’s secretary of state for tourism, Rita Marques, the meeting will give the chance for a follow-up assessment progress in sustainability in tourism, and to prepare their spring session. Moreover, a joint effort by the member states will also be considered on the basis of vaccination campaigns and a coordinated approach involving measures restricting circulation and the consequent rebuilding of trust among travelers. “We have a unique opportunity to recover and rebuild the tourism ecosystem in Europe,” Marques was reported saying by Portugal’s Lusa News Agency. “Despite the dramatic crisis, we have a real opportunity to reinvent the tourism sector of tomorrow,” she said.
