Representatives of the Greek region’s Film Office took part in two meetings held between professionals of the audiovisual sector and relevant organizations from five countries (Lithuania, Romania, Greece, Egypt and South Africa). “We use the tools provided by our Film Office to boost region’s competitiveness in the field of audiovisual productions,” Central Macedonia Deputy Governor responsible for tourism, Alexandros Thanos, said. Established in 2020, the region’s Film Office also aims to promote the area’s rich history, cultural identity and unique filming destinations. Photo source: Region of Central Macedonia “Our participation in film festivals and our interaction with representatives of the audiovisual industry provides us with new perspectives and useful networking opportunities during these difficult times,” he said. “Furthermore, it allows us to align with the needs of the sector’s professionals and contribute, in any way possible, to the industry’s recovery, the attraction of new productions to Central Macedonia and the growth of film tourism* [in Greece],” Thanos added. During the Film O’ Clock International Festival, the head of Central Macedonia’s Film Office Lina Mylonaki presented the Greek region’s upcoming actions for 2021 in the fields of training and education, as well as the services provided for the support and assistance of audiovisual productions carried out in the area amid the coronavirus pandemic. * Film tourism, or film induced tourism, is a specialized or niche form of tourism where visitors explore locations and destinations which have become popular due to their appearance in films and television series. – With information from Wikipedia.
