The International Olympic Committee has selected Athens as the host city of the IOC Session in 2025. The Session is the general assembly of the IOC members that is held once a year. Athens was originally selected to host the recently held 137th IOC Session. However, due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic and the travel restrictions, the IOC Executive Board decided to hold the event virtually during March 10-12 and propose Athens as the host city of the 2025 IOC Session. “We are looking forward to coming to Greece and hopefully also to Ancient Olympia, to our birthplace and our spiritual home, in 2025,” IOC President Thomas Bach said on Wednesday during his opening address at the 137th IOC Session. The fact that the membership could not gather together in Greece came “as a great disappointment to all of us,” he added. The next IOC Session will be the 138th. It will take place before the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, which are scheduled from 23 July to 8 August 2021.
