Central Macedonia will aim to attract more German travelers in 2021, the region’s deputy governor for tourism, Alexandros Thanos, said following the ITB Berlin NOW 2021 trade show that was held virtually earlier this month.

The Region of Central Macedonia took part in the trade show with a virtual stand and its representatives stating that the region is “more than ready” to welcome visitors this season.

Referring to German travelers in particular, Thanos highlighted that Germany is a significant source market for the Central Macedonia Region.

“We expect air connectivity between Greece and Germany to pick up, once quarantine measures are lifted,” he said, adding that the region will focus on attracting more travelers from the country.

According to industry experts at the ITB show, the demand of German travelers for travel to Greece is expected to increase in the coming weeks, considering that they appear eager to travel to the Mediterranean this year.

“The renovated Thessaloniki Makedonia Airport will contribute to our efforts by being able to serve more visitors and offer modern comforts in accordance with the Covid-19 health protocols,” Thanos said.

During the ITB trade show, the Region of Central Macedonia’s new tourism strategy for the next day of the pandemic was presented. The region’s virtual stand also received many visitors that were interested in learning more on the region’s thematic tourism products.

According to region’s deputy governor, apart from the ‘sea and sun’ product, the region this year is also promoting alternative forms of tourism with emphasis on Mount Olympus and city break destinations.

During the same event, the Central Macedonia Region also announced its collaboration with the UNESCO World Heritage Center and Google Arts for the promotion of the area’s offerings through UNESCO’s electronic magazine.
