Athens Airport to Hold 3D Virtual Tours for Students

The Athens International Airport (AIA) is celebrating 20 years of operation and offering 3D guided tours of its premises to pupils and students from Greece and abroad.

So far the airport has welcomed some 65,000 pupils and students to its facilities. Despite the ongoing health restrictions, AIA has announced that it will continue its guided tours with the help of the 3D virtual tour technology.

As of April 12, young students will have the opportunity to enjoy a virtual tour inside the airport, with the guidance of AIA’s staff and popular mascot, Philos the Athenian.

“Pupils from even in the remotest regions, will be able to enjoy the exciting experience of an airport tour via their mobile phone or tablet. The 3D virtual tour not only gives visitors the sense of actually being inside the airport areas, but also allows them to choose a route and direction, through VR masks and compatible technology,” AIA said in an announcement.

Using state-of-the-art technology tools, the people of AIA guide visitors inside the main terminal building, the baggage handling halls, the art & culture exhibition areas, the passenger boarding gates and the control tower.

Furthermore, the visit includes an exciting tour around the Fire Brigade Station, where visitors can see the “Panther”, the Fire Brigade’s impressive rescue and fire extinguishing vehicle.

The airport is inviting schools and educational institutes to visit its webpage at www.aia.gr/traveler/airport-information/hospitality-services, and submit a request for a virtual guided tour of 1 ½ – 2 hours.

The 3D guided tour service is available by AIA with the cooperation of the international Athens Digital Arts Festival (ADAF) and the “360ο Points of View”.

Apart from the program, AIA also offers internet users the possibility to virtually visit the airport, anytime they want, thanks to the 3D navigation possibilities provided at www.aia.gr.
