According to an announcement, the company plans to cover the growing demand for the interconnection of the Greek islands and lakeside areas on the mainland. It will start its operation in early September with three hydroplanes offering 19 seats, and gradually increase its fleet to cover the whole country. The company’s strategic plan foresees the use of a mixed fleet of privately owned and leased planes, with the cost for the purchase of a hydroplane reaching 7 million dollars. Grecian Air Seaplanes will start its flights from the Ionian islands, that include some of Greece’s first licensed waterways. The company will gradually expand its routes to other island destinations based on the licensing procedures of waterways on the Cyclades, the Dodecanese, Crete, the Northeastern Aegean, the Sporades islands and the Saronic Gulf. Grecian Air Seaplanes aims to offer high-level services through scheduled and charter flights, as well as air services for tours, medical transport and cargo. Grecian Air Seaplane’s investors include Maria Toktor and Greek Water Airports President Anastasios Govas, as well as a German fund that will invest in the company through Axionair. “Once fully developed, the project will exceed 100 million euros. We connect Greece and develop a new tourism product for the country,” Axionair shareholder Dimitris Babakos said.
