Photo source: Visit Cyprus Meet in Cyprus 2021, the first-ever virtual MICE exhibition featuring Cyprus, attracted more than 300 virtual visitors from 37 countries, deeming the event a success. Organized by the Cyprus Incentives and Meetings Associates (CIMA), the event during April 14-15 brought together travel and event industry professionals with some of the island’s leading local hotels, DMCs, PCOs, as well as with other key suppliers through individual meetings, workshops and a full agenda of digital events. With over 20 exhibitors, Meet in Cyprus 2021 was an opportunity to showcase the island and of course the wide range of possibilities offered for MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) travel. According to CIMA, over the course of two days more than 500 virtual appointments between industry professionals with the participating local exhibitors took place. The virtual expo included an array of presentations, workshops and panel discussions. Key speakers included the Deputy Minister of Tourism Savvas Perdios and representatives from the Cyprus Convention Bureau and the Tourism Boards of Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaka, Famagusta, Paphos and Troodos. Of particular importance was the panel discussion held between Deputy Minister Perdios, Podimatas Group CEO Panos Podimatas and Professor Dimitrios Buhalis, which navigated the post-pandemic landscape in travel and events. It should be noted that Cyprus is currently open for travel to more than 60 source markets including all of Europe, Russia, the UK and the US. The first Meet in Cyprus virtual MICE exhibition was co-sponsored by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, Hermes Airports and CIMA. CIMA was formed in 1997 to represent the stakeholders to the MICE industry in Cyprus. The Greek Travel Pages (GTP) was a communication sponsor to the Meet in Cyprus 2021 virtual expo.
