Covid-19 Government measures Greek Authorities Preparing to Allow Domestic Travel with Rules by GTP editing team 11 May 2021 written by GTP editing team 11 May 2021 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 19 Self-testing and vaccination certificates may be the key to lifting domestic travel restrictions in Greece slated for May 14 as authorities prepare to announce the rules this week. Non-essential intra-regional movement (travel between regional units) has been banned since Greece entered its second lockdown as part of government efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19). According to the latest media reports, movement between regions may soon require passengers to present either a Covid-19 vaccination certificate, a negative PCR test or a self-test to travel by ferry, plane or train. Drivers may also be advised to carry self-test results with them as measures may include random police checks along major roadways. Official announcements are expected on Wednesday, days before Greece opens to international travelers on May 15. On Thursday, Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis will be presenting the final details to the country’s opening. According to current information, inbound travelers to Greece will not be able to enter the country if they do not present either proof of Covid-19 vaccination with the second dose done 14 days before travel or a negative PCR test result taken 72 hours before arrival. Greek residents who have been vaccinated will be able to travel from one region to the other but will have no other privileges, said Government Spokesperson Aristotelia Peloni clarifying that the vaccination certificate is meant only to enable safe travel. Once the ban on intra-regional travel is lifted, the government is expected to end the SMS requirement and the click away and click in shop methods for shopping with retail returning to normal.
