In its 28th year, the World Travel Awards serve to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry. WTA has opened voting across all regions worldwide and invites travel professionals, media and consumers to vote for their favourite travel brands. More nominations for Athens and its hotspots The Greek capital is also competing among other major European cities for the title of Europe’s Leading Meetings & Conference Destination for 2021, while some of the city’s major landmark sites and museums have also attracted attention. WTA has selected the Acropolis as a candidate for the title of Europe’s Leading Tourist Attraction for 2021. In addition, the recently revamped National Gallery – Alexandros Soutzos Museum will compete for the title of Europe’s Leading Tourist Attraction Development Project 2021, while the Koutsoyannopoulos Wine Museum has been nominated as Europe’s Leading Wine Tourism Attraction 2021. WTA: Europe’s leading cruise destinations Athens and its main getaway to the Aegean islands – the Piraeus port will compete for the titles of Europe’s Leading Cruise Destination and Europe’s Leading Cruise Port 2021 respectively. The port of Heraklion (Crete) is among the nominees for the title of Europe’s Leading Cruise Port. In addition, the Athens Convention and Visitors Bureau is among the nominee organizations for Europe’s Leading City Tourist Board 2021. Greece among Europe’s best destinations The WTA 2021 will also select Europe’s best destinations for 2021 and Greece is nominated in a number of categories including: – Europe’s Leading Destination 2021 – Europe’s Leading Cultural Destination 2021 – Europe’s Leading Island Destination 2021 (Cyclades, Crete) – Europe’s Leading Beach Destination 2021 (Corfu) The voting procedure for Europe is open until July 14.
