Ferry transport in Greece is expected again to face disruption after thirteen Greek seamen’s unions announced a 24-hour strike in all ship categories for Wednesday, June 16.

The unions – part of the umbrella union of the Panhellenic Seamen Federation (PNO) – are protesting against a number of regulations in a new labor bill, which will be voted for in parliament that day.

The strike will affect ferry travel from 00:01 until 24:00 on June 16.

Travelers who have booked ferry tickets for Thursday, are advised to check with their travel agents or contact local port authorities for further information.

In an announcement on Monday, the Greek Shipowners Association for Passenger Ships (SEEN) said it will take the matter to court to declare the strike illegal. A decision is expected to be announced on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a nationwide strike has also been announced for Wednesday by Greece’s largest public sector union ADEDY to protest against against the labor legislation.

With regard to other means of transportation, the following strikes are scheduled for Wednesday:

· Buses and trolleys will not run between 13:00 – 17:00.
· ISAP electric railway (train line 1) and Athens Metro (train lines 2 & 3) will stop running from 10am.
· Tram will be on strike from 10am.
· Trains of railway service operator Trainose and the suburban railway (Proastiakos) will not run between 12:00 – 16:00.
