Air Travel May 2021 Flight and Passenger Traffic to Greece Improves by GTP editing team 16 June 2021 written by GTP editing team 16 June 2021 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 20 Photo © GTP Incoming passenger traffic through Greece’s airports picked up in May marking a 673.4 percent increase compared to the same month in 2020, the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) said on Wednesday. According to HCAA data, the number of international arrivals to Greece rose by 2.58 percent, which the HCAA attributes to a relaxation of travel restrictions and an increase in incoming travelers. A total of 383,107 international travelers (against 14,273 in 2020) arrived in Greece in May on 19,608 flights marking a 194.3 percent rise against the same month in 2020 with 6,663 flights. Overall traffic in May increased by 673.4 percent compared to 2020 with Greek airports handling 1,250,187 passengers (arrivals and departures). When compared to pre-pandemic May 2019 data, the overall decline for international arrivals in May 2021 comes to 99.4 percent and to 97.2 percent for all passenger traffic. Photo source: HCAA For the first five months of the year, data is in the negative down by 48 percent against last year impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic and related restrictions. More specifically, a total of 2,913,951 passengers went through Greek airports in the January-May 2021 period, down by 48 percent against the same period in 2020 and 5,606,154 passengers. In the same period, the country’s airports handled a total of 61,172 flights: 42,730 of which were domestic and 18,442 international marking a 16 percent decline against 2020 and 72,823 flights.
