The gastronomy and products of the Greek island of Lesvos will “travel” this summer to Europe, Canada and the US through an online culinary festival that will stream on social media.

An annual event that takes place on the northeastern Aegean island, the 4th Lesvos Food Festival, this year was canceled due to the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. As a result, the Molyvos Tourism Association, organizer of the event, decided to organize a “food challenge” event for chefs, bloggers and restaurateurs in 10 different locations in eight countries – namely in Greece (Lesvos, Athens and Samos), Sweden, Austria, Germany, Belgium the UK, Canada and the US.

The organizing committee has already sent special “gastronomy packages” full of local products to the participants.

“These [products] will be cooked with love and inspiration in order to spread the essence of Lesvos’ gastronomy,” the organizers said.

The participants will hold online live cooking sessions or pre-recorded videos with simple, out-of-the-box recipes using the Lesvos Food Challenge products.

In order to avoid similar recipes and ideas, the organizers have included different products in each package, classified in theme categories as follows: Sardine Rolls meze, Wine Pairing, Elegant Ouzo treat, Cheesy pies and more, Lesvos high tea, Lesvos brunch time and NY DIY cocktails.

The cooking sessions will stream on Lesvos Food Festival’s social media, starting on June 20.
