Summer Culture Festival Opens in Athens

Following the easing of Covid-19 restrictions in Greece, the Municipality of Athens has launched a summer festival with live events taking place in four outdoor venues across the Greek capital.

Open to residents and visitors, children and adults, the festival includes concerts, dance shows and theater performances taking place in the Technopolis venue in Gazi; at the theaters of Kolonos and Grava; and at the AB movie theater in Ano Patisia.

From June until September, the municipality is offering the chance to artists, art groups and companies to use these venues for free, while also providing the necessary equipment.

Following an open call, the municipality’s events committee selected 100 proposals for cultural events and announced a program curated by the City of Athens Sports, Culture and Youth Organization (OPANDA) and Technopolis.

All events allow only a seated audience. The four venues are operating in accordance with the Covid-19 restrictions and official guidelines to ensure the safety and health of all artists and the public.

People who do not have the opportunity to attend Athens’ summer events, can watch all the concerts via live streaming from wherever they are.

“Culture is Athens”

The festival is part of the three-year “Culture is Athens” project launched by the municipality to upgrade, promote and connect Athens’ cultural entities, and actively support artists and culture employees affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

“This summer festival is different because it is organized by the Municipality of Athens, the people of culture and their ideas. We want to support these people but also provide the city with the colors and sounds it needs,” Athens Mayor Kostas Bakoyannis said.
