Through the new service, the island’s only Green Key and Bike Friendly certified hotel, Kallichoron encourages the use of bikes in efforts to reduce the ecological footprint of visitors and locals. The new service offers visitors to Astypalea the alternative option to explore the Dodecanese island using sustainable transport: mountain or e-bikes. The island has dozens of trails and routes for all levels and interests and for those keen on making a difference. “With a special love for theme tourism and as proud members of the Bike-Friendly Hotels network, we look forward to making Astypalea and Kallichoron a meeting point for cycling tourists… giving travelers the chance to discover the beauties of Astypalea by bike,” said Carolina Alkalai, general manager Kallichoron Art Boutique Hotel. “Cycling is an activity aimed at all ages. It is environmentally friendly, improves physical condition and brings you closer to nature. At the same time, its contribution to sustainability and to the integration of environmental criteria and ‘green’ practices into our activities is for us at Kallichoron, a way of life and an integral part of our philosophy,” added Alkalai, who is also responsible for the hotel’s sustainable development “Kallichoron Goes Green” program. Besides its warm hospitality, homemade breakfast and great location, Kallichoron Art Boutique Hotel now takes one more step with respect to the environment encouraging its guests to do the same. Astypalea is among the first Greek islands to prioritize green initiatives. Earlier this year, in partnership with Volkswagen Group, the island welcomed its first eight electric vehicles as part of a pioneering pilot project aimed at transforming the Dodecanese island into the first smart energy and green island in the Mediterranean and ensuring, at the same time, energy autonomy.
