Attica can be the perfect 12-month destination thanks to its diverse array of experiences and options and its “cosmopolitan charm”, said Attica Region Governor George Patoulis this week presenting a safe tourism plan during a dinner event for 18 ambassadors.

Patoulis referred to the region’s action plan and initiatives aimed at ensuring, firstly, that Attica is safe for visitors and locals alike. In this direction, the governor referred to the stringent Covid-19 protocols in place at public spaces, hotels, beaches and parks.

“Despite the problems caused by the pandemic, we are working systematically in the Attica Region to ensure the health of the population and of its visitors, with preparedness, validity and reliability and to monitor the epidemic and mutations in order to adapt to international tourism industry requirements,” he said.

Patoulis referred to the high inoculation rates of the Saronic Islands, which he said are soon to reach full vaccination.

Among others, Patoulis said strategic planning is focused on developing special interest tourism with emphasis on health and wellness. Also heading the Medical Association of Athens, Patoulis has made efforts to develop Attica’s medical tourism potential, noting that landmark works in the region such as the redevelopment of the coastal front along the Athenian Riviera, as well as dozens of other projects and infrastructure works on the islands will “radically change the image of the Attica region”.

Patoulis went on to highlight the region’s cultural program running through to September, which brings to life ancient sites and theatres across the region through theater, music, dance and bicentennial events.
