Maritime Heritage Week in Greece Postponed for 2022

The Greek Maritime Week, a multi-thematic event centered around the 13th conference of the European Maritime Heritage (EMH), has been postponed for 2022.

Organized by Proteas Panhellenic Association and the Hellenic Maritime Heritage (Argos C.N.P.C), the event was initially scheduled to take place in Pylos in the Peloponnese from September 11-19.

It has been postponed due to the uncertainty caused by Covid-19 and the travel restrictions implemented worldwide.

The Greek Maritime Week would include a wide range of topics; an exhibition of museum material; onboard visits and the mooring of historic ships; the promotion of Greece’s naval tradition that is intertwined with historical events related to the Greek revolution, the naval battle of Pylos and the role of warship “ARIS” of Tsamados.

The 2021 event would also pay a special tribute to the 200 years of the Greek revolution and its great marine heroes.

Also, the EMH Conference is a leading event offering worldwide exposure beyond the geographical borders of Europe.

“Taking into consideration the risk of holding a sluggish conference and the consequent undermining of the whole event, we have decided with great regret, to postpone the Maritime Heritage Week for 2022, hoping that future conditions will be favorable,” the organizers said in an announcement.

“The greatest difficulty of all, came as a result of the inability of our EMH partners to secure the participation of reputable researchers and speakers in the conference, as they were unable to ensure their unhindered travel to Greece under the current regime of uncertainty and travel restrictions enforced.”

The organizers will announce the new dates of the Maritime Heritage Week and the 13th conference of the European Maritime Heritage (EMH) in due course.
