Covid-19 Government measures Authorities Recommend Self-test for Land Travel in Greece by GTP editing team 9 July 2021 written by GTP editing team 9 July 2021 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 18 Travel by road domestically in Greece will not require a negative rapid test but the presentation of a negative self-test is highly recommended, said Deputy Civil Protection Minister Nikos Hardalias during a press briefing on Thursday after a spike in Covid-19 cases this week. Greece reported 2,107 coronavirus cases yesterday and 10 deaths prompting the government to revise measures. Hardalias said self-testing for domestic land travel was “strongly encouraged” and that rapid testing was not mandatory. Despite rumors of possible mandatory requirements, Hardalias said there were no “compulsory measures” for travel by land. He reiterated however measures in place for travel by ferry (to the Greek islands), by bus and by plane. According to these requirements all travelers aged 17 or over traveling by ferry to the Greek islands must present either: – a vaccination certificate or a recovery certificate – a negative PCR test done 72 hours before travel – a negative rapid antigen test taken 48 hours prior to travel. *Children aged 12 to 17, one of the above as well as a negative self-test result *Children under 12 – no testing requirement. Hardalias also said that travelers by plane, ferry or bus as well as on public transport are required to wear face masks throughout the journey. Lastly, the possibility of rapid testing upon arrival from the islands is currently being discussed, said Hardalias, but will require consultation before it can go into effect taking into consideration island testing capabilities and infrastructure. Passengers over 12 returning from the islands are strongly advised to self test. Earlier this week 14 youths returning from the island of Ios were found to be Covid positive.
